Douglas L. Obletz Strategic Advisor / Former Partner

Doug Obletz founded Shiels & Obletz (now SOJ) with Roger Shiels in 1984. As the former President of the company, Doug managed major transportation projects, public buildings, corporate headquarters and mixed-use developments. Throughout his nearly four decades in project management and development, Doug demonstrated a commitment to innovative urban revitalization, public-private partnerships and sustainable development. Doug is widely recognized for his ability to think creatively to solve even the most daunting development challenges. He has expertise in strategic planning, advising on real estate transactions, and providing executive oversight in all aspects of project development and implementation. He led the highly successful temporary stadium and track construction for the World Indoor Track & Field Championships held in Portland in 2016. Doug is also the Manager of an affiliated development firm, Sockeye Development, LLC, best known for its development of the Belmont Dairy, Hollywood Bookmark and Museum Place. Doug earned a degree in Economics and Political Science and a Doctor of Laws degree from Colorado College. Now serving of counsel to SOJ, Doug provides strategic advice to the firm and continues limited involvement in a range of on-going projects.

Doug is active in the local sports scene as President of the Oregon Sports Authority and leads youth sports initiatives, including the TrackTown Youth League, a state-wide program of free track and field meets for middle schoolers. Doug is an active runner, cyclist, swimmer and skier and enjoys traveling to remote locations with his wife and two sons.
