Connecting and Revitalizing Seattle’s Waterfront

Elliott Bay Connections (EBC) is a public–private partnership that reshaped 3.5 miles of Seattle’s waterfront into a fully connected, accessible, and vibrant public corridor. The project created a new multi-use greenway trail along the east side of Alaskan Way, stretching from Pier 62 near the Seattle Aquarium to the Olympic Sculpture Park. Designed for people of all ages and abilities, this protected path replaces obsolete trolley tracks with a safe, scenic trail framed by native plants, new lighting, and clear signage—complementing the city’s broader waterfront revitalization and helping to make the shoreline more inviting and easier to explore.
 
The project also included the full restoration of Myrtle Edwards and Centennial Parks—16 acres of waterfront parkland with spectacular view of Elliott Bay and the Olympic Mountains. Improvements include rebuilt pedestrian and bike trails, new lighting, enhanced beaches, restored shoreline habitats, improved accessibility and refreshed landscaping with resilient coastal plantings. A new public amenities building will offer restrooms and food  concessions, and the parks will gain additional seating, picnic areas and kid-friendly exploration features. Throughout the parks, Indigenous design elements, plantings and interpretive signage will honor the Coast Salish peoples and their connection to the land.
 
Completed in summer 2026, Elliott Bay Connections links over 50 acres of parks and public space along a 3.5-mile stretch of Elliott Bay, creating a cohesive waterfront experience for residents and visitors alike. The EBC project was funded entirely by private philanthropic donations.
