The Mental Health & Addiction Association of Oregon (MHAAO) is a community-based non-profit organization that helps individuals in recovery by connecting them to treatment, housing, and employment resources. The first phase of this project involved converting an existing medical office building in east Portland into the MHAAO Headquarters and Recovery Campus. The campus includes a day center, triage room, wellness room, and small meeting rooms where MHAAO staff provide recovery peer services, training, and technical assistance. Designed with a trauma-informed approach, the Recovery Campus utilizes local materials like Douglas Fir and cedar to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Features like layered spaces, multiple access points, and acoustical treatments help foster an inclusive and supportive environment.
